“The Invisible Class” explores what it means to be homeless in America, challenging stereotypes and examining the systematic causes of mass homelessness in the wealthiest nation in the world. Previous documentaries on homelessness tended to focus on individual people or subsections like veterans, the elderly or the chronically homeless. While these are important aspects, each is only a sliver of the overall situation. Mass homelessness didn’t always exist. We find out why it does now…from the system that created it to the criminalization that perpetuates it.
Joining us for an after-film discussion will be individuals currently experiencing being unhoused plus Benjamin Brubaker, clinical co-coordinator at White Bird Clinic that helps unhoused people navigate available resources and receive assistance. We are grateful to White Bird for co-sponsoring the screening of this important event.
