“A Revolution is coming. A revolution which will be peaceful if we are wise enough; compassionate if we care enough; successful if we are fortunate enough; but a revolution which is coming whether we will it or not. We can affect its character, we cannot alter its inevitability.” —JFK inaugural speech, 1961
The sobering reality of our nation is that mounting injustices steadily encircle us. Both humankind and our planet are crying out for a lifeline—begging for our attention. Now is the time to focus on our community to make the critical changes needed to save our present and future.
But the uprising of We The People has already begun. It’s taking shape with grassroots organizers and concerned citizens making petitions, collecting signatures, rallying in the streets of cities all over the United States, and speaking out with voices and social media. Our collective power grows as we listen to radio and watch TV stations that promote equality and provide factual information. Let all of us encircle each other with acceptance and compassion as we close the gap between wealthy and poor, well educated and those who are less so—to promote and claim what we all know as the American Dream.
Let’s be vigilant in our advocacy for better communication, civil rights, and protection for every living species on this planet—with fairness, respect, honor, and dignity as our foundational principles. We can allow our moral compass and capacity for critical thought to guide us back to humane values. Previous generations of Americans strove for happiness, liberty, and justice for all. Despite sometimes-enormous threats, they have passed to us the ability to achieve those same objectives. We can, and for our future we must, reignite our immense capacity to overcome adversity.
